SUMMER 2018

Fairy Houses and Gnome Homes

Oh my goodness!  This is my favorite theme!  Students collected nature items (and I provided some, too) to design and build a fairy house or gnome home.  Using recyclables as their structure, the campers worked diligently to camouflage their house to make sure it could blend into nature.  Then, they worked for two days to create special furniture and toys for the fairies and gnomes!  Can you find the fairy boat, fire pit, swings, pools, tables, chairs, beds, and bathtubs?!  On our final day, we invited our family and friends to walk through our fairy house and gnome home tour!

Engineering Discovery

We had SO much fun reverse engineering!  First, each camper took apart a remote control.  Some predicted there would be lots of wires and were surprised to see there was a circuit board!  Next, students dissected computers, monitors, telephones, printers, and even a modem.  You could hear the excitement as students discovered new electronics and pieces!  A HUGE success!

Coding Techies

I'm not sure who had more fun... Mrs. B and I or the kiddos!   We learned the fundamentals of writing code through interactive, group games first, and then through online coding programs.  We had so much fun that I forgot to take pictures during the group games!  Oops!  Campers learned how to use commands to make sequences with loops, functions, and parameters.  We used Hour of Code, Scratch, Jr., and Tynker to write code and create animations!  SO MUCH FUN!
